Washington Elementary School is a K-6 school established in 1953 on 8.2 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands. Today, our campus consists of 11 permanent and 17 portable classrooms.
The full time staff includes 23 regular classroom teachers, four Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) teachers, two special education teachers, 4 classroom aides, two custodians, two office personnel, and a librarian. Additional staff include physical education specialist, child guidance counselor, psychologist, health clerk, speech and language therapist, instrumental music, science lab teacher, art teacher, and a computer lab technician. These people, combined with the efforts of the principal, the PTO, countless volunteers, and motivated and dedicated parents, form a team to ensure that children receive an education that will prepare them for the 21st century.
Mission
Our mission is to provide all students with a positive and challenging learning experience. Critical thinking skills are developed through literacy, fine arts, mathematics, technology and the sciences. Individual excellence and a desire for lifelong learning are promoted through a partnership between home, school and community.

Vision
The vision of Washington Elementary School is to be a community learning organization that unites the strengths and talents of students, parents, and staff into a single learning organization focused on: rigor, relevance, and an attention to the “whole child.”

To achieve our vision, the following goals have been established:

Strong Academic Program—Create a challenging, relevant, and engaging instructional program provided by a staff working interdependently and in conjunction with parent and community volunteers that allows all students to master grade level standards.

Enrichment & Arts—Create and sustain a comprehensive and standards-based enrichment program that includes the areas of science, visual art, physical education, and instrumental music. This program is meant to extend, enrich, and deepen the core academic program.

Healthy Environment—Maintain a healthy, supportive learning environment by engaging all students, staff, and parents in a discussion about the Washington Way (Respect and Responsibility). Create and maintain an educational nutrition program that allows students to grow their own food, cook their own food, and eat their own food.
