GATE Philosophy

At Valencia Valley School we believe in "Excellence in Education." The core curriculum provides the groundwork for differentiation that challenges the most advanced learner. Teachers consciously plan curriculum which will vary in acceleration, depth, complexity and the degree of novelty for GATE students. From a common core, students will be encouraged through a variety of strategies to work at their most advanced level. These learning opportunities will consist of tasks and projects which encourage students to integrate their knowledge, experience and skills across disciplines, topics and concepts.

Music

Every child at Valencia Valley has the opportunity to participate in the extensive music program offered by the Newhall School District. Primary students in grades Kindergarten through second sing, read rhythms, play instruments and study composers of the past. Third grade students practice and learn to play recorders. Fourth through sixth grade students have the option of participating in chorus, taught on a semester basis every other week, and/or in playing an instrument in orchestra. Orchestra is offered at a variety of skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Some of the different groups include: band, strings, percussion, brass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, violins and low brass.

An informational meeting about orchestra is typically held at the end of each school year for those interested in joining the following year. Look for flyers coming home for specific dates and information.

Accelerated Reader

Vikings: Look for our Accelerated Reader Book Title Lists here. Accelerated reader books are available in our classrooms and school library. Students are encouraged to read titles at their instructional level. When a book is completed, students can log onto quizzes in the classroom and in the library in order to see how well they comprehend the material that has been read. Please see your child’s classroom teacher for an updated accelerated reader level. Our wonderful PTA provides the accelerated reader books and quizzes for Valencia Valley!
