"To ensure that all students have the skills necessary to reach high levels of academic achievement, respect self and others, and become lifelong learners."

Principal's Message

Dear Vinci Park Families,

Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, "Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing with all your might...be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your objective."

It is with enthusiasm and pleasure that I welcome your family to Vinci Park Elementary School. Our school is located in San Jose, California and is a part of the Berryessa Union School District. Our student population of 720 students has a very diverse ethnic makeup that brings a richness of cultures to our campus. The school was originally built in 1975, has recently completed a modernization inside our building and a new paint job on the outside. We are proud of our new look and take pride in our school.

Vinci Park’s staff is committed to providing a strong educational experience for our students. Our mission is "to ensure that all students have the skills necessary to reach high levels of academic achievement, respect self and others, and become lifelong learners." The curriculum, which is aligned with the California Standards, is delivered in a variety of ways to meet the learning styles and needs of all of our students. Beginning in Kindergarten, you will find teaching and learning activities that are designed to foster literacy, promote understanding of mathematics, learn about the world we live, develop a love of science and integrate technology into the learning process. All students are given opportunities to extend their learning by using critical thinking skills and problem solving strategies. We believe that all students will be successful.

It is our desire to work in partnership with the community to provide the best learning environment for our students. The ongoing partnership between parents and teachers is vital to your children achieving their greatest potential. Vinci Park offers many opportunities for parents, families, and community members to become involved in our school. I'd like to invite all parents, guardians, grandparents and community members to be a part of our learning community in some way this year. In fact, our challenge to you is to commit a minimum of 10 hours of volunteering per year (that's 1 hour per month). Volunteers are always welcome in classrooms, and throughout the school to support student learning. Participation in the Vinci Park Home and School Club and Site Council is highly encouraged.

I look forward to meeting each and every one of you and continuing the tradition of nurturing, teaching, and inspiring. The entire staff at Vinci Park welcomes you and your child to a year of growth, a year of joy, and a year of magic!

Every child is an individual who grows and develops at his or her own rate. We are dedicated to make each child's Kindergarten Year a successful one. To insure the success of all of our students, we provide both a challenging academic program and a caring, safe environment. We recognize the unique personalities and special talents of all our students.
Our Reading/Language Arts series is published by Houghton Mifflin. It focuses on subjects such as beginning sounds, letter recognition, comprehension, vocabulary, sight words, and handwriting.
Our Harcourt Brace Math series is a standards based program that concentrates on sorting, shapes, numbers, reasoning, estimating, time addition, subtraction, and other topics. We utilize both "hands-on" math manipulatives and workbooks to enhance each child's learning.

The Science/Heath curriculum includes the Ecosystem, Plants, Dinosaurs, Dental health, Five Senses, Animals, and so many more.

Kindergarten field trips may include trips to the Pumpkin Patch, Youth Science Institute at Alum Rock Park, Discovery Museum, or Happy Hollow. We also invite guests to visit our classrooms such as dentists, police officers, fire fighters, nurses, and the Alum Rock Park rangers and their animals.

We hope that giving the children both a strong academic program and providing a safe and loving place to learn will enable them to become productive lifelong learners and community members
