Our school motto is, “Together We Can Make It Happen.”

Summerville Elementary School has been serving the foothill community of Tuolumne for almost 140 years. The current school enrollment is 380 students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Twenty-seven certificated teachers and a Principal serve the students and parents in the Summerville Elementary School Community. The primary Title 1 program employs one full-time teacher, seven part-time paraprofessionals who work students one-on-one or in small groups. The primary Special Education teacher serves grades K-5 and is assisted by two part-time aides. The school also offers a Learning Center in the upper grades (5-8), which serves both Title 1 and Special Education students. This program is staffed with a full time teacher and three part time aides who work with students in small groups throughout the day. Support personnel also include office staff; bus drivers; custodial and cafeteria staff; and a library / media center coordinator.

Summerville Elementary has involved School Site Council and Board of Trustees, an active PTSA, as well as many parent and grandparent volunteers. The community supports the school in many ways, which include financial aide (i.e., Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuks, Rotary Club, and Sonora Area Foundation), and attending school functions throughout the year.

It is the mission of Summerville Elementary School District to provide a rich learning environment and a rigorous curriculum designed to engage all students. The instructional program is consistent with Federal, State and local guidelines and delivered explicitly to students in order to assure that all students achieve success.

The school offers many different educational programs to meet the needs of our students. Many children get supplemental help during and after the school day. Among these programs are activities for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), Title 1, Speech and Language services, music, adaptive P.E., a library and a computer lab. Title IX (Indian Education), after school remediation, and tutoring is provided to students enrolled in the After-School Program.
