Mission and Philosophy
The Bard staff is creative, enthusiastic and committed to presenting a strong academic program for all students. Our teachers encourage each child to develop his/her full potential by providing a learning environment that is based on California and district frameworks. Many of our teachers work together on teams to plan and implement our quality academic program.

Location and Community
Richard Bard School is in the Hueneme School District and is located within the boundary of the City of Port Hueneme. Port Hueneme is sixty miles northwest of Los Angeles in the central-west section of Ventura County. Port Hueneme has a commercial harbor that includes a naval detachment and construction battalion base. The community consists primarily of low income single parent families, farm laborers, and base personnel, all of whom display a high mobility. Within the attendance boundaries are few single family homes, numerous apartments, a few neighborhood shops, and a light industrial section.

As reported in May, 2007, there are 685 kindergarten through sixth grade students enrolled: 0.7%-American Indian, 2.5%-Asian, 0.9%-Pacific Islander, 7.4%-Filipino, 5.5%-Black, 59.7%-Hispanic, and 23.3%-White.
