Statement of Purpose
Pinewood School seeks to create an educational environment where students may acquire academic stamina, intellectual maturity, self-esteem, and a high standard of behavior. Our goal is to provide students with the skills necessary for success in school and beyond through a strong college preparatory curriculum that emphasizes the importance of reading, writing, computation, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
We believe learning should be a positive and rewarding experience that challenges students to achieve their highest potential. Classes are small, allowing for individual instruction and promoting student diversity and self-expression. This fosters open communication and rapport between students and teachers. Outside the classroom, students are given opportunities to express themselves through a number of extracurricular activities designed for both group and individual involvement. The importance of these activities is stressed and student participation is actively encouraged and supported.
Standards and Commitment
We are committed to the intellectual development of our students and assume that students who come to Pinewood care about learning and are eager to participate actively in their education. The school motto is “Pinewood is the Difference†and we take pride in making this motto a reality. Select here for the Lower Campus or Middle Campus Student Commitments.
The students at the Upper Campus have chosen the acronym WISCR (in reference to our Panther mascot) to summarize Pinewood’s Expected School-wide Learning Results (ESLRs). The ESLRs were defined by the school community – students, parents, faculty, and staff – as a means to integrate Pinewood’s goals and objectives into the daily classroom environment. Through curricular and extracurricular programs, Pinewood students will be:
