Pine School is a rural K-8 elementary school built in 1949. It is part of the Holtville Unified School District (HUSD) and is located 6 miles north of Holtville, a small community of about 5,000 residents in Imperial County. Located 120 miles east of San Diego and 20 miles north of Mexicali, Mexico, Holtville is a rural, agricultural community. Holtville Unified School District consists of two elementary schools (Pine Elementary School, K-8, and Finley School, K-5), one middle school, one high school, and one continuation high school.
The campus has two large play areas for both grass and hard surface activities. Every grade level has one classroom. During the 2004-2005 school year, there were 184 students attending Pine School in grades Kindergarten through eight. Pine School is on a traditional schedule.
The number of students living in Pine's attendance area has decreased over the years. The HUSD has modified the attendance zone over the years in an attempt to increase enrollment at Pine. Currently fourteen percent of the students at Pine reside outside its attendance zone. Transportation is provided from town. However, due to bus routes, students spend about an hour on the bus to travel the six miles from and to town. It is estimated that 40% of Pine students are driven to and from school by their parents or another adult.
Pine School is known for its strong academic focus and active community support, as well as maintaining a well represented intramural sports program in grades 6-8. The educational programs at the school are tailored to meet the needs of our changing society. Pine School is dedicated to ensuring the academic success of every student and providing a safe and comprehensive educational experience.
