About Monte Vista
Standing in the shadows of the beautiful Santa Ynez mountain range in the city of Santa Barbara, Monte Vista Elementary School is renowned not only for its wonderful views (it literally means "mountain view" in Spanish) but also for its educational vision.
First opened in 1966, Monte Vista has grown to be recognized as a lighthouse of academic excellence. Its rich core curriculum is augmented with an equally impressive fine arts program.

Monte Vista is not just tooting its own horn when it points out its achievements. The U.S. Department of Education and the State of California have honored Monte Vista as well. In the past decade, the school was recognized as a California Distinguished School, one of only 4% of all public schools in the state of California, and as a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School.

Monte Vista earned these distinctions because of its excellent and innovative programs, which are the result of hard work and commitment to excellence by its students, parents, teachers, support staff, families and community. We invite you to learn more about our school and the talented people who are maintaining its proud tradition.
