Striving for excellence from the start.

Our K-3 program is highly focused on three distinct, yet interrelated skills that students need as they advance in their education; language and literacy, mathematics, and problem solving.

Language and Literacy
By third grade, our students are confident readers and communicators. Our teachers use whole and small group instruction, learning centers, student teams, and project-based assignments to reinforce such key reading and language skills as:

Analyzing and decoding both familiar and unfamiliar language
Reading with both literal and inferential comprehension
Writing in a variety of settings, for a variety of audiences
Communicating thoughts and ideas effectively, both orally and in writing
Mathematics
From kindergarten through third grade, we work daily with the students to help them:

Understand the number system, including computation and math facts
Understand patterns, functions, and variables (the basis of algebra)
Create and analyze data in tables and graphs
Describe and design geometric and spatial concepts
Measure time and money

Problem Solving
We constantly challenge students to problem solve, enabling them to develop the critical thinking skills that provide the structure to become independent learners in later grades. Early experiences in problem solving include:

Defining problems
Generating solutions
Evaluating the multiple solutions
Planning the next steps
