Mission Statement:
Students, parents, staff and community will provide a caring learning environment that addresses the needs of our diverse population and provides a thinking, meaning-centered, outcome-based education for ALL.
Special programs:
Griffin Reading Club
After school program in conjunction with Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department
School-wide LIFESKILLS program incorporating character education, school discipline and safety plan, and counseling
Weekly mini-assemblies based on trimester themes, Lifeskills and student recognition
In alternating years, school-wide themes of "Ocean Week" and "Passport Day", culminating in Open House
Adopt-a-Cop program - two officers visit school each week in a classroom and at lunch
Awards, grants and other recognition:
Sonoma County Office of Education's "1996-97 Program Excellence Award" for the Griffin Reading Club
Partnership with the 4th Street branch of Cal-Fed Bank that has resulted in over $6,000 worth of donations for the school's library and employee volunteers in the classrooms
Recipient of Public School Library Protection Fund grant, 1997
Recipient of School Violence Reduction Grant, 1998-99
Recipient of matching grant with Rotary Club of Santa Rosa to support the school's library, April, 1999
School-community partnership to put books in homes highlighted in November 30, 1998 issue of "Partners" insert in THE BUSINESS JOURNAL
