The mission of Hawthorne School is to provide a nurturing atmosphere of acceptance, mutual trust and respect which meets the diverse needs of our students. The entire school community strives for all children to realize their maximum academic and social potential through shared learning with teachers, parents and staff and are challenged to meet or exceed the state standards. They are given the skills and knowledge to both excite their imagination and to inspire lives of continuous learning. Students learn to assimilate the positive values of a democratic society.
The staff of our kindergarten through eighth grade campus works collaboratively to provide consistent standards based instructional program in every classroom. Teachers plan together around essential standards for each grade level to provide common lessons, assessments, and analysis of student work to best meet the needs of all students. In addition, teachers work with grade levels other than their own to articulate strategies and expectations to ensure a consistent K-8 experience for all students. Through collaborative teams and school wide goal setting including staff and parent input, the school’s mission is put in to practice.
Hawthorne School is primarily a neighborhood school, well-known throughout the community for working cooperatively toward a common purpose, and honored as a 2006 California Distinguished School. Hawthorne students establish bonds of friendship that last a lifetime. Anyone who walks onto the Hawthorne campus can feel the spirit and know that Hawthorne School is a wonderful place to be.
