Principal’s Message
The role parents play in educating their children can not be underestimated. Here are some ways you can help your child succeed in school:
Value Learning: Make learning fun. Read together, go to the library, watch educational programming, or play board games together.
Be Involved: Talk to your children about school. Ask them what they like or don’t like. Be aware of homework, and be available to help them, but don’t do it for them.
Establish Routines: Schedule regular times for meals, reading, and bedtime.
Limit Television and Computer Time: Hours in front of the television can work against development of critical thinking skills. You don’t need to eliminate them, but you do need to limit them.
Eat Right: Children that have proper nutrition are better learners.
Sleep: Going to bed too late and getting up early results in irritability, lower energy levels, and shorter attention spans, all of which impede learning. Establish a regular bedtime and stick with it.
Exercise: Physical activities improve fitness and reduce obesity.
Schedules: Don’t overbook your children’s schedules. Quality is better than quantity. Choose a good balance between organized activities and family-focused time.
Attendance: Unless they are sick, don’t take them out of school. There is a direct correlation between attendance and academic success.
Volunteer: Volunteer to help in the classroom or at special events. Be involved with school.
Hope this is helpful.
Sincerely,
Don Foster
