The sound inside the gymnasium is absolutely deafening. The children’s faces are strained and their voices quiver as they get louder and louder. Their smiles are wide, stretching from ear to ear. They can barely stay seated, although they manage. The enthusiasm in the room is contagious and you find yourself screaming along with the 400 excited children. What is it that they’re yelling? "WE LOVE IT!," of course! What do they love? It is Colfax School.
Looking around Colfax on any day of the week can see that spirit and legacy of hard work.
Colfax Elementary is on target in achieving California academic performance standards as required by the “No Child Left Behind†act. We follow a standards-based approach to the fundamentals in addition to offering a broad spectrum of enrichment courses and a top-notch KidzKount after school program for all students. We take full advantage of class size reduction in Grades K through 3rd with an average ratio of 18:1. In addition we have recently implemented class size reduction in Grades 4th through 8th with an average ratio of 21:1. We also offer:
21ST Century Classrooms -This means all classrooms have the interactive Smartboards, teacher workstations and a sound enhancement system.
Science Lab – One of our new approaches to education is a commitment to science with a dedicated science lab and the adoption of a new science curriculum. This will offer our students a solid foundation to move into the increasingly technical global economy.
GATE (Gifted & Talented Education) – Colfax Elementary utilizes the classroom teacher to provide differentiated instruction to not only work with the GATE student but to accelerate their progress. GATE instruction is project-based, enabling gifted students to apply their talents in a real-world setting.
Intervention – This after school program is designed to benefit those students identified as at risk of not reaching academic proficiency. The three-part program, run by our teaching staff, offers targeted intervention and assistance; a homework station so homework can be finished before going home; and fun, right-brain activities such as visual and performing arts and cooking.
